Dr. Fan Zhang visited POLEIS and discussed with lab members

Dr. Fan Zhang is an assistant professor the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Prior to HKUST, Dr. Fan Zhang was a Senior Research Fellow at MIT and the lead of the Urban Visual AI group at the MIT Senseable City Lab. His research sits at the intersection of GIScience, Urban Data Science, and AI. He is now an associate editor of Transactions in Urban Data, Science, and Technology, a guest editor of ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and a reviewer for over 40 SCI journals in the field. He won the Global Young Scientist Award in Frontier Science and Technology at WGDC 2020 and was recognized as Geospatial World 50 Rising Stars in 2022.

Dr. Zhang visited our lab and discussed with lab members on Nov. 14th about his past research experience mainly in using street-view imagery to understand geographic, social, and economic characteristics at different levels and future research focus. Potential directions for further collaboration were discussed as well.
